Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC releases are set for Europe and North American in early 2015 via digital distribution. Surprisingly or not, Capcom hasn’t announced anything about a Wii U version despite the franchise’s connection with Nintendo over the last decade.

Improvements include 1080p graphics with 16:9 widescreen support, 5.1 surround sound for those eerie groans, new analogue controls with a classic option for fuddy-duddies and scrolling backgrounds.

Resident Evil HD producers Tatsuya Kitabayashi and Yoshiaki Hirabyashi also took to YouTube for a look at the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. They make it clear they don’t want to mess with the gameplay. Good lads.

’90s gamers will remember the impact Resident Evil‘s take on survival horror had when it was originally released for PlayStation in 1996. The game made the jump to Sega Saturn and PC, both with their own tweaks.

A remake was produced for GameCube in 2002, and later ported to Wii, with updated visuals, voice acting, entirely new areas and added baddies. It’s the remake that’s once again being shined up for modern hardware.
