EA took the higher ground and kicked off presentations at E3 2019 with just shy of fifteen minutes of in-game footage from Respawn Entertainment‘s upcoming Force ’em up, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Set shortly after Revenge of the Sith and the Clone Wars in the tumultuous period leading up to the events of Rogue One and the original Star Wars trilogy, Fallen Order follows the story of Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis and his tiny wee droid BD-1 as they try to not do Jedi things during the purge instigated by Order 66. They don’t seem to be managing too well at laying off the Force judging by today’s presentation.

The demo footage starts on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk with a bit of Jedi parkour by Cal to reach some resistance fighters led by Rogue One‘s Saw Gerrera, with Forest Whitaker reprising his role from the movie. We get to see Cal stealthily biffing some stormtroopers and other armoured Imperials, including a fight with a special kind of shock trooper who wields a staff that can resist lightsabers like the one seen briefly in The Force Awakens.

There’s also an encounter with an indigenous lifeform that resembles a giant enemy spider – shudder – who ends up attacked in its weak point for massive damage. After a bit of environment navigation involving a tunnelling machine the size of a small moon, the demo ends with Cal encountering a pretty hardcore security droid that resembles K-2SO, Alan Tudyk’s character from Rogue One. Everything seems suitably Star Wars and you wouldn’t be blamed for having a sense of déjà vu if you’ve ever played 2008’s The Force Unleashed or even the later games in the Jedi Knight series developed by Raven Software.

Yonder Internet seems split over this one, but it’s at least pleasing to see some single-player intergalactic action again. It’s been almost a year to the day since we found out the title of EA’s latest Star Wars game at E3 2018, and it seems the wait for more information has built up quite a few expectations. There isn’t too long to wait until we can all have a go for ourselves when Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launches for PC, Xbox One and PS4 on November 15 this year.

Does the demo footage of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order float your landspeeder? How’re you finding this E3 so far? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @overworlduk.
