Subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack tier can play Banjo Kazooie from January 20th in North America and January 21st in Europe, Nintendo has announced.

Nintendo revealed back in October that Nintendo Switch Online would start receiving Nintendo 64 games as part of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, in reference to the N64’s RAM-doubling add-on of yore. Banjo Kazooie’s arrival joins several other Nineties banger launch titles, including Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Lylat Wars (look, it’s just not Starfox 64 okay?), Yoshi’s Island, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Paper Mario was added in December.

The Banjo Kazooie licence belongs to Microsoft like most things nowadays, but it’s not the first time the ursine-avian collaboration has made it to Nintendo Switch. The pair was introduced as part of the DLC Fighters Pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in September 2019. The original Banjo Kazooie was developed by British studio Rare and released for the Nintendo 64 back in 1998. It’s legit better than Super Mario 64. I said it. Not sorry.

Check out the trailer for Banjo Kazooie below if you’ve somehow never experienced one of the finest 3D platformers known to humankind, or are just really jonesing for the day to arrive when you can take the bird and the bear for a spin on Nintendo hardware again.

Love Banjo Kazooie so much you’ll pay a faintly ridiculous amount of money to sort-of-but-not-really own it? Guh-huh! Let us know in the comments or over on Twitter @OverworldUK
